A Counselor's Perspective

Reflecting on the last 4 year since we took the first steps to form our circle of Knights Daughters, I can't quantify the hours spent planning, sharing, encouraging, worrying and praying that have been put into this group by our team of adult counselors. I can, however, measure our success, not by the hours spent, but by the girls who've been in our program. Some we met at 10 years old, shy and unsure who are now chairing events, and others we met at 18, ready to tackle the world. We've lost a few to lack or interest or incompatible priorities, but joyfully, some of those who were lost for a while returned, ready to be leaders and to share and grow in the faith with other Catholic girls looking for one safe place to practice our Feminine Genius.

At times, our time; hours and days seemed hard to find and harder to give. Working with youth is not always a clear path. Chartering a new circle is was definitely not a certain endeavor. Thankfully, most of our time spent is rewarded by our members' enjoyment of our bi-monthly meetings and pride in the many, many activities and opportunities they plan and take part in. Our church and community have come to know these girls as confident, upstanding young women capable of taking on responsibility and making our parish and community a better place.

Would I do it again? - for sure. I have many years until my youngest daughter is eligible to join, and there are many young women of all ages yet to become members. We serve our members and their families in supporting the Catholic faith and promoting the unique role we have as women in the church and world at large.
